Kathleen Jones, 72, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Henry Ford Hospital in Jackson, MI. Kathleen’s family and friends will gather Friday, February 13, 2026 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Eineder Funeral Homes – Michigan Center Chapel. Her funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm. Fr. Tim Nelson will serve as celebrant.
She was born on February 12, 1953, in Jackson, Michigan to Robert and Virginia (Sczcybiek/Badgley) Jones. Kathleen married the love of her life, John Merkel, on November 27,1988 in Marshall, Michigan. She will be remembered for her strong faith. Kathe was a Napoleon High School graduate, class of 1972. She was a loving wife that made family her priority. Kathe was very active in her church, participating in the Adoration at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and she taught CCD at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church. She retired from State of Michigan DMV after 22 years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, being a member of the Quilt Guild and she was an avid reader. Kathe loved taking the families bi-annual trips to Frankenmuth to celebrate birthdays and shop, especially with her niece. She was the organizer for the family reunions and was well loved by all. Kathe will dearly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Kathleen will be missed by her loving husband, John Merkel; her siblings, Mary (Frank) Donovan, Linda Shepard and Tom Jones; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Virginia and brothers; Bob, Dick and John Jones.
