Lyle A Culver's Obituary
Age 95, of Summit Township, passed away peacefully in his sleep September 17, 2017. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Evelyn Culver. He is survived by his daughter, Ellen Boyers and her husband Douglas of Cibolo, Texas, two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, sister Louise Zantop and brother, Elmer Culver and his wife Berdetta. He was born January 24, 1922 in a home birth on a cold, windy day in Moscow, MI. He graduated from Hanover High School Class of 1941. He served the nation in the US Army, World War II, serving in Italy in the 347th Field Artillery, 91st Division, 5th Army under General Mark Clark as a vertical control operator. He was awarded the Bronze Star which was earned by members of the military who distinguish themselves with heroic or meritorious service. Lyle retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He and Evelyn loved to travel, they had visited 49 of the 50 states in their various trailers and motor homes. He would save his vacation time so they could leave for extended periods. Several humorous memories of Lyle from family and friends, he was called Nanook because he seldom missed work because of deep snow on the roads, he was devoted to working in his yard and neighbors would see him shoveling dirt from one place to another for hours at a time. He completed a Capp home mostly by himself after working a full day at the shop, on the morning he died he was requesting Kentucky Fried Chicken and Ginger Ale. Another favorite was coney dogs and root beer from Rudy's. Services will be held at St Aidan's Church (361 East Grove) Michigan Center Friday, September 22, 2017 at 2 pm with Chaplain Greg Grotbeck officiating. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to service time. Graveside Military Honors will be given by the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team. The family wishes to give a special thanks to the staff at Summit Park Assisted Living Center for the wonderful care he received while a resident.
