Marilyn F. Plachetka's Obituary
passed away April 18, 2017 at age 82 at her home in Jackson where she was lovingly cared for by her husband and seven daughters. She was born Marilyn Frances Smith on February 28, 1935 in Jackson, MI. Married on May 5, 1956, this year marks almost 61 years of marriage to her husband, John Plachetka.
Marilyn lived her life with incredible grace, and taught everyone who knew her lasting lessons of kindness, acceptance and forgiveness. Her life was centered on her faith, her family and service to others. She raised seven daughters (yes, no boys!), and loved them, her son-in-laws, 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with all her heart.
A devout Catholic, she was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and officer of the Daughters of St Francis de Sales. For many decades, she worked as an X-ray technician for Jackson's changing hospital systems and delivered Meals on Wheels for over 25 years. She enjoyed the company of good friends and schoolmates in her Dinner Club, and was active in the Model "A" Restorers Club, Spartan Region. She loved to play Bridge, compete with the contestants on Jeopardy and challenge her children and grandchildren to Scrabble (which she almost always won!)
She is survived by her husband, John Joseph Plachetka, Jr.; seven daughters, Cathy (Dave) Schoenfeld of Brooklyn, MI, Mary "Sue" (Wayne) Fransted of Brighton, MI, Teresa (Geoffrey List) Plachetka of Williamston, MI, Lynn Boardman of Jackson, MI, Laurie (Mark) Curran of Highland, MI, Beth (Randall) Rowe of Jackson, MI and Carol (Randy) McCown of Jackson, MI; 17 Grandchildren, Kristan (Jason) Delmarty, John (Colleen) Schoenfeld, Andrew (Lindsey) Schoenfeld), Nicholas (Emily) Fransted, Rebecca (Shawn) McLaughlin; Joseph (Ashley) Fransted, Rachel (Josh) Meisel, Zachary List, Kara (Curtis) Sturgill, Thomas Boardman, Brendan Curran, Brittany Curran; Brianna Curran, Erica (Greg) Denton, Randall Rowe II, Jordan McCown and Chelsea McCown; 17 Great Grandchildren, David, Christopher, Charlie, Lucy, James, Celia, Michael, Lillian, Maxwell, Samuel, Bennett, Harrison, Oliver, Elliott, Rowen, Easton, and Tess; and sister Elizabeth (Herb) Williams of Junction City, WI.
