Martha was my aunt. When I was a kid, my parents used to visit my grandparents a lot, and at the time, she was living at home with them and her daughter (my cousin Sarah). My brother and I would often watch movies (I have distinct memories of eating microwave popcorn) or play Atari in her bedroom (I think it’s what got me hooked on being a gamer). The background would always have a police scanner going (she used to like to follow that). When I was a bit older, but not old enough to stay home alone, she would sometimes babysit my brother and I when my mom needed her to. As I got older, and family gatherings happened less and less, I’d only see her and my uncle here and there. When social media hit it became easier to connect with people so we always stayed in touch digitally. I know she enjoyed seeing my nephew growing up, and had enjoyed seeing my daughter Riley in all the pictures we’ve posted of her in our family album. She loved her family and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. I’ll miss seeing those outspoken moments on social media for sure. Goodbye Martha.
