Mary Ellen Smith's Obituary
Age 84, of Jackson, passed away on January 8, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Kouch" Smith in 2004, her parents Francis and Catherine Rooney, siblings Leo Rooney, Theresa Piper and Janet Wheaton. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Dan) Ott of Jackson; three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, Amy (Brad) Hess, Karl, Matheson and Abigail of Clarklake; Melissa (Kelly) Hull, Grace, Layla and Andrew of Horton; Travis (Stephanie) Ott, Keigon, Hoyt and Remmy of Parma; siblings Mary (Betty) (Joe) Judge and Tom (MaryAnn) Rooney, both of Jackson; many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Mary Ellen's joys were spending time with her family and friends; as well as trips to the casinos. For many years she did clerical work, was an election worker at Napoleon Township's Ackerson Lake Precinct and a substitute for the Jackson County Intermediate School District. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 1:00 pm with Father Tim MacDonald officiating. Interment will take place at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. A gathering of Family and Friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary Ellen's memory may be directed to the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home or sent to CSF(Chiari & Syringomyelia Foundation), 29 Crest Loop, Staten Island, NY 10312 (CSFinfo.org).
