Guilfoil, Maury J. ""The Cake Man"", age 74, of Jackson, passed away at his home September 17, 2014 under the loving care of his family and Great Lakes Hospice. He is survived by two sisters, Joyce (George) McCaslin and Mary Guilfoil Amanati, four nieces and nephews, Tara (Jerome) Hall, Scott, Troy and Jason Showerman, three great-nephews and niece, Jacob (Kortney) Showerman, Cody and Brittney Southwell and great-great nephew, Isaac T. Showerman and his beloved canine companion, CoCo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Guilfoil and Catherine (maiden-Radkey) Rappleye. He graduated from St. Johns High School Class of 1958 and went on to Eastern Michigan University to earn his Bachelors and Master of Arts Degrees. He was a principal at Hanover-Horton Elementary School and then moved to East Jackson Public Schools where he retired after as a Librarian and Teacher. He operated Maury's Cakes in Jackson for many years, enjoyed birdwatching and was active in animal rescue. Services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, Jackson, MI on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 10:30 am. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday evening 5-8 pm with a Rosary Service at 7:30 pm. Contributions in his memory to his family to help defray his final expenses would be appreciated.
