Nicole Paullette McGarry's Obituary
Nicole McGarry was born in Pont-à-Mousson in France on July 13, 1938. During World War II in France, Nicole, her brother and her parents found ways to survive. She immigrated to the United States in 1962 with her husband and her newborn son. Like most immigrants she struggled to adjust to her new home in a strange culture. Eventually she made friends and engaged in meaningful ways with her new community. Nicole became a homemaker, raising five children. She enjoyed children, sometimes collecting them up into groups and teaching them French. She also enjoyed teaching and serving her small community. She lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For years she traveled from Michigan to North Carolina to be involved in every way she was able with those she loved. She was a committed and enthusiastic volunteer in the children’s programs at church. Teaching preschool classes for 20 years at Cement City Baptist Church, Nicole showed the love of Jesus to so many children. She was also very active in church in many other ways. She lived simply. She liked taking walks for exercise and being outdoors in general. She liked thrift shops. She loved hosting and entertaining her family from France when they visited. She also loved plants and gardening, crafts and sewing, shopping and feeding birds. Nicole was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on December 16, 2023. Public viewing will be held at Cement City Baptist Church at 10:00am on December 22, 2023 followed by a service at 11:00am officiated by Pastor Drew Woods. Nicole will then be laid to rest at Cement City Baptist Memorial Gardens.
