Orville C. McLaury's Obituary
Age 93, long time resident of Michigan Center, passed away in Muskegon, MI on Saturday, January 10, 2015. Orville was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary E. (Sanford) on May 2, 2013; parents, Guy Wallace and Dora (Hewitt) McLaury; siblings, Wayne McLaury, Beatrice (Cliff) Dodge and Carl (Vera) McLaury; Mary's siblings, Dorothy Sanford, Barbara (Al) Shannon and Kay (Phoebe) Sanford. He is survived by his loving family, daughter, Melissa (Doug) Freye; grandson, Jonathon (Susan) Freye; numerous nieces and nephews. A deeply committed educator, Orville began his career teaching in 1941 in one-room schoolhouses around Jackson (Draper, Gravel and Sandstone) before joining the Michigan Center Public Schools in 1947. At Michigan Center, he served as teacher, Arnold School Principal, High School Principal, Asst. Superintendent and Superintendent before retiring in 1984. He was an active member with and Past President of the Michigan Center Rotary Club. A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, 361 E. Grove Street, Michigan Center, MI 49254 with Deacon Matt Shannon officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 am until service time. Interment will take place in Woodland Glade Cemetery, Bois Blanc Island, Michigan.
