Paul D. Velner's Obituary
Age 93, of Leoni Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2020 under the care of the staff Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home. Paul is survived by his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and Bill DeHommel of Kentwood, MI; his companion, Dolly Whitney; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Margie in 2003; as well as his siblings, Carl and John Velner and Lois Tucker. Paul was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He went on to have a career with the Clark Equipment Company. Retiring at the age of 55, it gave him time to enjoy traveling the entire 50 United States as well as numerous countries around the world. He took many cruises over the years. Paul was always a volunteer, something he truly enjoyed; as a longtime member of the Michigan Center Lions Club with their projects, at Mooseheart with his membership at the Moose Lodge, Allegiance Health Volunteer Services as well as for other good causes throughout his life. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion Rose City Post #324. He enjoyed golfing, boating and gardening. Graveside services will be held at Roseland Memorial Gardens on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 1:00 pm with Bart Hall, Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Chaplain officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team. For those who wish, contributions in Paul's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home would be appreciated.
