Phyllis Eileen Alcock's Obituary
Phyllis Eileen Alcock, age 85, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. Phyllis’ family and friends will gather Thursday, March 2, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Loomis Park Baptist Church. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023 with a gathering to begin at 10:00 a.m. at Loomis Park Baptist Church, 2301 N. Elm Avenue, Jackson, Michigan. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Napoleon, Michigan. Pastor Rich Zawadzki will be officiating.
She was born on June 11, 1937, in Brooklyn, Michigan to Howard and Winnojean (Bartholomew) Thomas. Phyllis married the love of her life, James “Peewee” Alcock, on September 15, 1956, at Loomis Park Baptist Church, Jackson, Michigan. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother that was very active as a member of Loomis Park Baptist Church. Phyllis sang in the church choir, chauffeured kids to and from the church, was on the kitchen committee and helped in the nursery, along with serving on many other committees at the church. In addition, Phyllis was the oldest active member of Loomis Park Baptist Church. Phyllis also drove a bus at Vista Grande Villa and had her own CB handle known as “Lead Foot”, as she was well known to drive very fast! Phyllis also delivered bundles of papers to the paper boys for delivery. She would bribe her grandchildren to help with the paper route with donuts and chocolate milk! She also loved to play board games with grandchildren and was not very happy to lose! Phyllis also ran a local daycare for many years.
Phyllis will be missed by her children; Debra Rice, Craig (Victoria) Alcock, Janice (David) Lichensteiger and Matthew (Lisa Webb) Alcock; her sister, Margaret Cook; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, James “Peewee” Alcock, her parents, Howard and Winnojean Thomas, siblings, Hadley Thomas, Mildred VanHorn, Ada Schindler, Helen Polanis, Howard Thomas Jr., Lynn Thomas and Donald Thomas.
