Richard Kirk Schuette

With love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Richard “Rick” Kirk Schuette, a devoted father, grandfather, and friend who brought joy and laughter to everyone who knew him. Born on July 20, 1958, Rick lived a full life of love, humor, and cherished moments. A graduate of Columbia Central High School, Class of 1977, Rick went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. His time in the Navy provided him with countless stories, and it shaped part of his unique journey. After his service, he built a successful career at Ford Motor Company, retiring after many years of dedication and hard work. Rick was a goofball who found endless delight in being silly and sharing a good laugh. Whether he was cracking jokes or making others smile, his playful spirit was contagious and unforgettable. If you knew Rick, you knew his love for football ran deep, even if it often came with heartache. A die-hard University of Michigan football fan and loyal Detroit Lions supporter, he stood by his teams through every triumph and defeat, never wavering in his passion. Beyond football, Rick also enjoyed NASCAR, especially the fun of tailgating with friends at the track. Rick’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He loved hitting the golf course and relaxing at the lake, whether kayaking or hanging at the Sand Bar with a Bud Light in hand. He also enjoyed adventuring with his oldest daughter in San Diego, spoiling his son and daughter-in-law’s dog, and making memories with his youngest daughter and her kids, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. Rick will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Rick is survived by his loving children, Cathy Fillmore, Nick (Anna) Schuette, and Courtney Schuette; his brothers, David (Sherry) Schuette and Jerry (Jan) Schuette; and his grandchildren, Kaleena, Kaiden, Kinsley, and Kyla, as well as several nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Nancy Schuette, and his sister, Jill Schuette. The family is planning a celebration of life at the American Legion Wilbur-Bartlett #315, where he was a member, in Brooklyn, Michigan, on Friday, December 27th, beginning at 3:00 pm.
