Robert Maurice DeMeester's Obituary
Robert Maurice DeMeester passed away surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 79 on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
Robert was born on May 17, 1944, in Freeport, Illinois to Casimir and Esther (Biehl) DeMeester. Robert married Diane Sierminski, on June 10, 2006, at their home in Michigan Center, Michigan. Robert proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal. Once the war was over, Robert became a television engineer, and eventually retired as an educator from the Lansing Public School System. In his free time, Robert loved amateur radio as a Ham Radio enthusiast, enjoyed watching documentaries and discussing them, was a model airplane builder, and was an avid and talented fisherman who never missed the opportunity to try to “catch the big one”.
Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him dearly. Robert will be especially missed by his beloved wife, Diane; his children, Katie (Emerson) DeMeester-Lane, Robert (Emily) DeMeester, and bonus children, Jonathon Ferguson and Jamie Lynn Ferguson; half-brother, Calvin Phelps; grandchildren, Gaia DeMeester, Sofia Shuler and Dalyla Shuler along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two siblings, Casimir Richard (Janet) DeMeester, and Betty (Wayne) Graff.
Robert’s family and friends will gather Saturday, September 16, 2023, for visitation at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Eineder Funeral Homes ~ Michigan Center Chapel (formerly Arthur-Day Funeral Home), Fr. Jarrod Dillon officiating. The Family will receive loved ones and friends for refreshments at the Jackson/Coolidge Masonic Temple in Michigan Center following the Celebration of Life. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Jackson Walk to End Alzheimer’s, for an ongoing memorial with “Team Bob”. Contributions may be made out to “Alzheimer’s Association” and in the memo line please denote “Team Bob”.
