Her funeral will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 11:00 am following visitation. Pastor Jeff Sheeks will officiate. Interment to be at 2:30 pm at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Tecumseh, MI.
Roberta entered this life on November 9, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan as the daughter of Thomas and Florence Swaffer. As a young child her family moved to Belleville, Michigan where she spent most of her life before moving to Addison, Michigan in 2002. She graduated from Belleville High School in 1958 before earning her Bachelor's Degree in teaching from Bob Jones University in 1963. She married Richard Hunter in June of 1963 and they enjoyed 60 years of life together.
She contracted Rheumatic Fever when she was two years old and her parents were told she would live less than two months, but she proved the doctors wrong and established a lifelong pattern of overcoming health issues. Throughout her life she endured more major illnesses and numerous surgeries, earning her the nickname "Bionic Woman" among her family and friends. But she persevered by God's grace and enjoyed life to the fullest with a perpetual smile and cheerfulness. We are sure that she is now enjoying Heaven in that same way.
She developed many wonderful friendships over the years, especially at the churches where she was so involved (Grace Baptist in Belleville, FaithWay Baptist in Ypsilanti, Maranatha Baptist in Belleville and First Baptist of Brooklyn, Michigan). She loved her family and her many friends, particularly her great neighbors, Brent & Jill Zollman. In the past few years, she missed the get-togethers at the "lost" Wixom Lake and looked forward to its return. She enjoyed teaching many wonderful students during her life, both as a school teacher and as a Sunday School teacher. She also enjoyed numerous crafts and cooking.
Preceding Roberta in death were her parents and older brothers, Thomas and Fred. She is survived by her husband, Richard; brothers James (Peg) Swaffer of Clarklake, MI, and John (Cyndie) Swaffer of Sugar Creek, OH; children Tim (Marla) Hunter of Brooklyn, MI, Mike (Ronda) Hunter of Hillsdale, MI, Joanna Hunter of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Daniel Hunter, Cate (Josh) Rankin, Thomas Hunter, Camille Hunter; great grandchildren Jonah & Laney Hunter.
Contributions can be made in her memory to First Baptist Church of Brooklyn, MI or Elara Care Hospice of Adrian, MI. Please leave a message of comfort for Roberta’s family or sign her guestbook at www.EinederFuneralHomes.com.
