Roger J. LaMothe's Obituary
LaMOTHE, ROGER J. Age 71, of Jackson, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 3, 2013. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 43 years, Esther E.; two sons, Joseph LaMothe (Rachel Collier) of Lexington, KY and Robert (Christine) LaMothe of Grand Rapids; sister, Janice Kerzner of Ore City, TX; aunt, Vi Smith of Pickford, MI; nieces and nephews, Ronald Kerzner of Sault Sainte Marie; Dan Schneider of Sterling Heights, Donna Schirmer of Imlay City and Danna Mose of Fort Gratiot; cousins and numerous wonderful friends. Roger was born at Sault Sainte Marie to Joseph H. and Myerl A. (Smith) LaMothe who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Michigan Technological University and earned his M.B.A from Central Michigan University, where he also met his bride. He worked at Consumers Energy for 33 years, retiring in 2001 as a Senior Rate Administrator. Roger had many hobbies, interests and community involvement, among them were: Jackson Eyeopeners Lions Club for over 28 years; Paragon Charter Academy Board of Directors, currently President; Social Member of the County Club of Jackson; Volunteer Server at the Jackson Interfaith Shelter; The Forerunners and Jacksonians Retirement Organizations; Amateur Radio Operator; Boy Scouts of America; United Way of Jackson County; Jackson Non-profit Support Center; Mid-Michigan Chapter of MENSA; Jackson County Rose Festival Board; Michigan Theater Preservation Association; and several other civic and service organizations over the years; he enjoyed photography; collecting stamps, clocks/watches, wine/scotch and animation prints. In Scouting, he earned the James E. West Fellow and District Award of Merit; he was an Order of the Arrow Member. In LIONS International, Roger was active on all levels as member and mentor; District Governor, Lions of Michigan Council Chair, President of the Lions of Michigan Foundation, recipient of nearly every award imaginable for Lions Service, presenter of programs at local, state and international levels. Roger and Esther enjoyed travel around the country and world for Lions meetings, Lions humanitarian projects and simply for their own pleasure. As was his request, cremation has been selected, but only after giving what he could to the Gift of Life so that others may be of benefit. A Memorial Service to Honor and Celebrate Roger's life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 275 W. Michigan Avenue, Jackson, MI 49201 on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 1:00 pm with the Reverend Sue Babb officiating. A luncheon will follow the services. Family will greet friends at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the services. For those who wish, contributions in Roger's memory may be given to the Lions of Michigan Foundation, Michigan Eye Bank, Bear Lake Camp or Leader Dogs for the Blind.
