Ross C. "Dick" Smith, Jr's Obituary
Age 85, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2021 at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson. Ross was the son of Ross and Edna (Rice) Smith and grew up in Michigan Center where he enjoyed all the activity around the chain of lakes; he graduated from Michigan Center High School.
Ross went on to work in Tool & Die at Quick Plastics and then Plastigage where he managed the tool room. He truly enjoyed working and keeping busy. In his younger years he built air boats, drove ice boats and really enjoyed fishing, a passion he had all his life on local lakes as well as the Great Lakes. Later in life he was able to travel the Great Lakes shoreline to enjoy the scenery and the lighthouses. Ross liked to go to Jackson Crossing to walk and socialize. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Jackson.
Ross is survived by two children, Rex (Terri) Smith of Seattle and Celeste (Al) LaFountain of Jackson; six grandchildren, Christine (Brad) Kirchberg, AJ LaFountain, Heather (Josh) Nieto, Brad Smith, Corey Denoncourt and Eddie Smith; two step-grandchildren, Jennifer Meehan and Adam Capps; his dear friend, Sylvia Blakely; several great-grandchildren; five siblings, Laura Haines of Jackson, Ruth (Dave) Franklin of Jackson, Bill Smith of Florida, Dennis (Linda) Smith of Napoleon and Jake Smith (Ruth Marshall) of Jackson; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Eloise; son, David Smith; infant daughter, Teresa Smith; grandson, Nick Barr; great-grandson, Paul; sister, Shirley Peterson and infant sister, Sarah Jane Smith.
Memorial Services led by Pastor Rod Walker will be held at Harmony Baptist Church, 6475 Ann Arbor Road, Jackson on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 1:00 pm with a luncheon following the services.
