In Loving Memory of Russell "Rusty" Schurman
Rusty, born on July 22, 1945, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, who passed away peacefully at the age of 79 surrounded by his loving family.
Rusty's life was a reflection of courage, service, and a deep love for his family and community. His service in the Navy, serving on aircraft carriers USS Forestal and USS Saratoga during the Vietnam War, exemplified his bravery and commitment to his country, shaping him into the honorable man he became. He continued his noble service as a sergeant for the Westland Fire Department, always ready to help others with his quick thinking and compassionate heart.
After retiring from his firefighting career, Rusty found joy in running his own antique shop, where he shared his passion for history and unique treasures with the community. His shop became a sanctuary for collectors and history enthusiasts, drawn to his warm smile, knowledge, and love for the past. He also had a love for the great outdoors enjoying hunting and fishing with his family.
Rusty is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Macy-Schurman, his children Beth (Schurman) Eaton and Michael Schurman, his stepchildren Scott Motson and Lisa Macy, his grandchildren Brooke, Brad, Jacob, Kyle, Reagan, and Ryan; his sister, Sharon (Schurman) Shimmin and a wide circle of family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
