Santiago T. Plata's Obituary
Santiago Plata, age 73, affectionately known as Chago, passed away peacefully November 3, 2021; surrounded by his loving family. He was a caring and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His term of endearment for his immediate family was that they were the “Gleam in his eyes”. Santiago was a proud Vietnam War veteran serving as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne in the U.S. Army and a longtime member of American Legion Post 29 in Jackson, MI. He retired from the State of Michigan Department of Corrections.
Santiago was well known for wearing his cowboy style hats and boots. He loved fishing and deer hunting with his sons Santiago Jr. and Juan Carlos, and grandson Jaidan. He educated them from a very young age on gun safety. He loved traveling across America with Mary; his wife and love of his life. Santiago was an avid reader and knowledgeable in many topics. He was a great story teller and loved sharing his experiences with friends and family. He was also a master griller/great cook and shared his wonderful dishes with the guys at deer camp. The guys savored the great eats.
Santiago is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years. He is also survived by his son, grandson, mother, siblings, and many extended family members. He is preceded in death by his father and son Santiago Jr.
