Scott Burton Barnett's Obituary
Scott Burton Barnett, 70, of Brooklyn passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Chelsea Retirement Community. Per Scott’s wishes cremation has taken place and the family is planning a Celebration of Life on Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Beach Bar at Clarklake.
He was born on February 24, 1956, in Lansing, Michigan, to William and Merelyn (Burton) Barnett. Scott married Anne, February 14, 1999 in St. Ignace, Michigan. He will be remembered as a kind, compassionate person with a great smile. Scott graduated from Addison High School, class of 1974. He was involved in landscaping, softscapes and hardscapes, even being featured in the tour of homes, Jackson. Scott truly loved the outdoors, especially anything to do with water. In 1974, he canoed the full length of the Grand River from Michigan Center to Lake Michigan. Scott cherished his family vacations on Lake Michigan. He loved to travel primarily in Michigan. Scott also enjoyed bicycling, doing the DALMAC bike tour eight years in a row. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn and the American Legion Wilbur Bartlett #315 of Brooklyn. Scott was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather that was fun to be around and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Anne; his children, Nathan (Kelli) Barnett, Kelly Mack, John (Jen) Dermyer and Lauree Dermyer; a sister, Lori Barnett; grandchildren, Tyler, Lucas, Hudson, Phillip, Page, Nicholas, Lily and Amiyah; many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Merelyn; and a son, Chad Dermyer.
