Shelden James Benson's Obituary
Age 23, of Coopersville, formerly of the Jackson area, passed away July 9, 2016 as a result of a kayaking accident on Lake Michigan. He is survived by his mother (His Angel as Shelden called her) Bridgette Benson (Rick Soule), father, Scott Westendorf, sisters Shannah Benson, Reese Westendorf, niece, Makaylah McKenzie, aunts and uncles, Tonya (John) Fatchett, Shannon Benson, Jami (Chris) Spuller, grandparents, Gloria Goodman, James (Staci) Benson, Lois Westendorf, Richard and Beverly Rhines, cousins, Ian Fatchett, Olivia Fatchett, Shane Rhines, Tori Rhines and Cody Moore, girlfriend (His Baby) Leslie Sodeman. His beloved dog Midnight preceded him in death. Shelden had attended Forest Hills High School in Grand Rapids, was a long time waiter at Logans Roadhouse in Grand Rapids, enjoyed basketball, hockey, swimming and camping. Services will be held at St. Aidans Episcopal Church (361 East Grove, Michigan Center) Friday, July 15, 2016 at 2 pm with Reverend Melissa Claxton officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 pm until service time. A luncheon will be held following service at the Leoni Baptist Church (245 North Portage Rd, Jackson).
