Shirley Jean Ferens' Obituary
Shirley was born May 19, 1927 and passed away on November 21, 2019 at the age of 92. She is survived by sons, Mike (Dee) Ferens of Hudsonville, MI and Russ Ferens of Fenwick, MI; daughter-in-law, Mary Ferens of Beulah, MI; grandchildren, Marcie (Mike) Barton, Michelle (Brad) Jones, Melissa (Brian) Guigue, David (Meghan) Ferens, Meghan Norton, Colt Ferens, Justin (Christina) Ferens, John Ferens, Morgan Ferens, Dillon Ferens; great-grandchildren, Samantha Jones, Maxwell Jones, Jessica Barton, Cayden Ferens, Jayden Ferens, Caylee Ferens, Braiden Ferens, Gage Ferens.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, David; brother, AC Goit and parents, Carl P Goit and Freda B Wallace. She was also preceded in death by her uncle, David Robinson and aunt, Goldie Frost Robinson who raised Shirley after her mother died when Shirley was a young girl.
Shirley owned the Hilltop Hair Salon in Greenville Michigan prior to retiring and moving to Beaulaville, NC to enjoy a milder climate and be close to her brother and sister-in-law. Later Shirley and John moved to Napoleon, MI to be near their children and grandchildren. In 2017 Shirley moved to Georgetown Cambridge Manor Assisted Living in Grandville, MI where she was cared for until her death.
Shirley was a lifetime member of the VFW, volunteered countless hours to 4-H activities in Greenville, was a talented painter, made crafts and especially enjoyed quilting until her eye sight diminished due to macular degeneration. John and Shirley enjoyed camping and traveling with their boys and later grandchildren. Shirley was a wonderful cook and her rhubarb custard pie and home-made noodles are family favorites.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 25th from 10 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. at the Arthur-Day Funeral Home located in Michigan Center, MI at 820 5th Street. Burial in the Napoleon Oak Grove Cemetery next to John will immediately follow the service.
The family would like to thank the staff of Georgetown Cambridge Manor and Spectrum Health Hospice for the loving care and support they gave Shirley and her family.
