Vern A. Kurts' Obituary
Age 78, passed away peacefully September 8, 2017 at his home under the loving care of his family and Great Lakes Caring Hospice. He was born September 1, 1939 in Butler, MI, to Monabelle and Roy Kurts. He graduated from Michigan Center High School in 1958 and joined the Army following graduation, where he was stationed in Germany. Vern had a lot of varied interests and was always up for the next adventure. He was an avid golfer participating in the "Hole in One" Club multiple times. He shared the love of the game with everyone including his two daughters. He loved deer hunting with his best friends, he was a member of the American Legion, an enthusiastic sports fan loving the Tigers, Lions and the MSU Spartans. His love for the Spartans was readily on display on his golf bag, his car, his beloved dogs Kady and Kalley, and on the flag pole in the front yard which also flew the American Flag, as he was also a true patriot. Vern is survived by the love of his life, Nancy; his daughters, Kelly (Dan) Henderson, Stacy (Dan) Murray; step-brother, Mike (Linda) Prentice; his grandchildren, Ryan Wootten, Austin Henderson, Keith Henderson and Devlin Murray; his sister-in-law, Marylou (Gary) Huntley and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, many thanks to his best friends that made his life whole, Dave Klima, Jimmy Zentagraf, Chris Gaddy and Elissa Alden. He was preceded in death by his mother, Monabelle Prentice; father, Roy Kurts; step-father, Fred Prentice; sister, Janet Glessner and brother, Virgil Kurts. A Celebration of Life will be held at Gene Davis & Sons Catering, 3575 Francis St. Jackson, MI on Thursday September 14, 2017 at 1pm with Hospice Chaplain David Cornwell officiating. The Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team will provide Military Honors. Donations may be sent to the Cascade Humane Society.
