Virginia Rose Fisher's Obituary
Age 96, passed away on January 4, 2016, in Placentia, California, surrounded by family. Ginny grew up in Coffeyville, Kansas; then moved to Jackson, Michigan, where she met the love of her life, Robert LaRue Fisher. They were married for 61 years before Robert passed away in 2006. Her other great passion was golf in which she gained fame as an organizer of the first teen golf league in Jackson at Green Valley Golf Course, helped created several women's golf organizations around Michigan and was inducted into Jackson Golf Hall of Fame in 2008. Ginny is survived by her daughters, Sandra Fisher of Jackson and Susan Fisher (Matthew Wilken) of Placentia, CA; stepson, Robert Fisher, Jr. of Jackson; grandsons, Chad Barrus of Jackson, Todd Barrus of Adrian, Tynan Young of Placentia, CA, and Douglas Williams of Bellevue; granddaughters, Jamie (Brian) Pennell of Leslie, Tessa Young of Placentia, CA and Penny Lafountain of Lakeland, FL; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Maude Allen; beloved husband, Robert Fisher; daughter, Dianne Storey of Jackson; stepdaughter, Gerri Schoening of Lakeland, Florida; granddaughter, Gabrielle Pennell of Leslie; as well as her half-sisters and half-brothers, Leon Buckey (wife Hellen) of Oklahoma, JoAnn Savely (husband John), Waunita Mead, Ray Allen, Fred Allen, Betty Bowers and Shirley Bibey, all of Kansas. Ginny Fisher was full of life to the very end and made things just a little better because she was here. We will continue annually to enjoy the amazing Christmas morning coffee cake that the ""Miss America, 1937"" made thanks to the recipe she left us. Services will be held at Nichols-Arthur Funeral Home in Michigan Center on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 am with Pastor Phil Stout officiating. Interment will follow at Roseland Memorial Gardens. A Luncheon Celebration will follow at the Ella Sharp Park Golf Course Clubhouse. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 pm to 6 pm.
