Wanda Jean Uncapher's Obituary
Age 90, of Jackson, MI, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, under the care of her loving family and the wonderful staff at the Henry Ford Allegiance Health Hospice Home. Born September 14, 1931 in Summit Township to Alvin and Mayjle (Carman) Tolles, she was one of 10 siblings. She grew up in Jackson, graduated from Michigan Center High School in 1949 and married a career Navy man. Together with their brood of 4 children (3 sons and 1 daughter), they would move from port to port, including Philadelphia, New London, Pearl Harbor and San Francisco. Upon their retirement, they returned home to Michigan, where Wanda dedicated her life to providing for and raising her children. She managed the Camera and Jewelry departments at Kmart for 30 years, and then worked for the Red Cross for 10 years, retiring from both. She also worked at the Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Wanda was a devout Mormon, who tirelessly dedicated herself to her callings within the Church and was passionate about genealogy. She enjoyed bowling, crafting, reading, baking and swimming. Her family will lovingly remember her wonderful cooking, her beautiful singing voice, no-nonsense attitude, and love of all things chocolate.
Wanda is preceded in death by her mother and father, stepmother Helen, siblings; Ethel, Leonard and Lewis (twins who passed shortly after birth), Eva, Don, Jack, Gretta, Alice and Alvin Jr. She is survived by her four children, Michael (Margaret) of Jackson; Kathleen Zonts of Grass Lake; Mark (Linda) of Grass Lake and Matthew (Kimberly) of Goshen, IN; sister, Dorris Rea of Jackson; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
A private memorial will take place at the grave site. A public memorial will be held in January at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3019 W Morrell, Jackson MI. 49203; date and time are still to be determined.
Please honor Wanda's memory by pouring yourself a tall glass of Tru Moo (whole NOT 2%) chocolate milk, throw back a couple brownies, read a Mary Higgins Clark novel, or binge on NCIS. In lieu of flowers, Wanda would have been tickled pink if you considered making a donation to your favorite charity in her name.
