Welma Jane Smoyer (Gaw)'s Obituary
Age 90, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015. A lifelong resident of Jackson, Welma was born on February 28, 1925 to Carlton Belt Gaw and Eleanor Isabel Gaw (Duff). She is survived by two sons, Gregory Smoyer of Jackson and Randall Smoyer (Carolyn) of Michigan Center; five grandchildren, Hillary Smoyer, Stephanie Smoyer, Jessica Hutchins, Chandra Easterwood (Keith) and Amy Keyes (Aaron); ten great grandchildren and special friend and former daughter-in-law, Kyle Brooke. Preceded in death by infant daughter, Vicki Lynne; granddaughter, Jennifer Jones; husband, Vaughn, to whom she was married for 62 years and daughter-in-law, JoAnn. Welma worked for the AAA branch office in Jackson for 34 years retiring in 1981 as office supervisor. Subsequently she worked for the American Cancer Society and Martha Cox Travel Agency. Welma and Vaughn were very active with the Jackson Host Lions Club and Welma continued supporting the Club after Vaughn's passing. Welma was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family thanks Ganton's Countryside staff for their excellent and loving care of our loved one. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 801 S. Mechanic St., Jackson, MI 49201. In lieu of flowers, those so inclined are encouraged to make a donation in her memory to either St. John's or the American Cancer Society.
