Willard J. Rosencrants' Obituary
ROSENCRANTS, WILLARD J. ""ROSIE"" Age 93, of Largo, Florida, died November 6, 2012, in Largo of kidney disease. He was born on June 11, 1919 in Jackson, Michigan to George and Jennie (Jane Ann) Rosencrants. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise; grandson, Robert J. Scott; his parents; brother, Ervin G. Rosencrants; and sister, Cecil I. DeCamp. He is survived by his children: Carole L. Scott (Larry) of Albion, MI; Judith A. Filip (Alexander) of Alexandria, VA; and Thomas G. Rosencrants (Eileen) of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Kenneth P. Scott of Jackson, MI; Steven J. Scott (Valerie) of Livonia, MI; Gregory R. Walter of Alexandria, VA; Jeffrey C. Walter (Yekyong) of Wonju, Republic of Korea; Anthony P. Marzetti of Lucca, Italy; Alissa M. Marzetti of Boston, MA; Dr. Zachary A. Filip of Redlands, CA; Joseph P. and Kevin R. Filip, both of Austin, TX. His six great grandsons include Brandon (Natasha); Rusty and Collin Scott; Adrian Walter; and Evan and Davis Scott. He is also survived by two great great grandsons, Ty and Myka Scott; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy A. Gundy and Nina V. Haines, both of Pinellas Park, FL; and a brother-in-law, J. Richard Haines (Beverly) of Jackson, MI, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Rosencrants retired in 1972 from a 25-year career as a civil servant with the United States Postal Service in Jackson, MI, where he held positions as a postal clerk and supervisor. He and his wife pursued an active retirement in Florida and enjoyed extensive travel for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WWII in the Aleutians and at Ft. Hood, TX. Afterward he served briefly in the National Guard and was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a strong supporter of our troops and veterans. He frequently participated in veterans' events and collected for veterans' causes at VFW poppy sales in the Largo area. He was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan and an avid reader of newspapers, humor, and mystery novels, as well as biographies and histories of WWII. He also enjoyed musical and theater performances with friends and neighbors. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Largo, FL. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Michigan Center, MI, on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 11 am, with Father Tim MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Jackson, MI. Graveside military honors will be provided by the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, with a Rosary Service by Father John Bakle at 7:30 pm.
