William Jack Rushing's Obituary
Age 93, born November 9, 1922 to Richard Louis Rushing and Susan Belle Knight in Tool, Texas. Jack was a WWII veteran who trained as an aviator. He met his lovely wife Rita Ouellette while stationed in Michigan and they were married in 1946 and spent sixty-seven happy years together until her death in 2014. Jack graduated from Austin State University in Texas in the late 1940s. He worked in the oil fields of Texas and Oklahoma, taught school in Sugartown, Louisiana and eventually moved to Detroit in the mid- 1950's. He joined the US Custom service in Detroit and worked there until retirement. After retirement he went back to work at Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum, jobs he enjoyed so much he said he could hardly believe they were paying him to have so much fun. He was a resident of Dearborn Heights and a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church for over 50 years. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Rita, parents Richard Louis Rushing and Susan Belle Knight, his two sisters Ruby and Louise and his son Michael. He is survived by his children Patricia Nicolato, Christine Slotemaker, Pamela Sass, Ronald Rushing, Carol Laage, David Rushing and Sandra Booher; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was beloved by everyone who knew him. A funeral mass will celebrated on Saturday, October 1, at 11:00am, at St Rita Catholic Church 10516 Hayes Road, Clark Lake, MI. The family will receive friends at the same location at 10:00 am prior to the mass. Cremation will follow services with interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
