Message: April 18, 2022 I met Bill through Comfort Keeper. I was assigned to care for Bill and his wife. I spent every Saturday and Sunday morning with Bill. He and I got to know each other. I would tell him about my week and then ask him how his week went. He usually replied with a brief “nothing” or something like that. We would sit and watch his
shows. He liked nature either on TV and in his backyard with the deer and the pond animals. His cat, Jack knew just what to do to get Bill to let him out or make Bill call him up on his lap to pet Jack. The were good for each other. Bill liked to watch old war movies, Custom Count, Two and a half Men, Pawn shop in Las Vegas, the DNR in New Hampshire, and Court Cam. I would come in to take care of my duties during commercials and find out how the Bronx Zoo or Jack Hannah has been up to. My favorite time with Bill was the week during the summer when the electricity went out after the storm. I was coming in a couple days during the week and on that weekend. He and I really got to know each other. He told me stories about being in his Motorcycle gang, working as a corrections officer, a little about his children, even about his time in the Marines, what he could remember. He was such a trooper making it work with No electricity, Meals on Wheels and bottled water. I knew he would make it ok, after all he was a Marine. And he did. I loved the opportunity to work with Bill and make a difference in his life. Bill was a blessing to me too. -Melody S.
