William Larry Matthews' Obituary
William Larry Matthews, Brooklyn, Michigan 87, passed away at home June 26, 2025.
William was born on August 21, 1937, in Norvell Township, Michigan, on the family farm, to Albert “Ed” and Beatrice (Mellinger) Matthews. William married the love of his life, Marilyn Jane, on August 18, 1956, in Addison, Michigan, on the Collins farm. They celebrated 60 years together until her death in 2016. He will be remembered for his great passion for the outdoors, where he learned the values of hard work, especially in his tractors, cutting trees and farming. He also loved to go for a drive and visit family or friends. William was devoted to his family and he found great joy spending time with them.
William will be missed by his children, Mark (Kim) Matthews, Teri (David) Gietek and Todd (Jeannie M) Matthews; siblings, Tom (Marilyn) Matthews and Wilma (Darold) Woodward; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Beatrice; his wife Marilyn Jane; his son, Scott Matthews; his brother James; and his sister-in-law Barbara Matthews.
