"Bill" Arnold William Herman's Obituary
"Bill" Arnold William Herman, Jr., of Jackson/Michigan Center, Michigan, passed away on January 26, 2026. He was born on April 28, 1965, to Arnold William Herman Sr. and Valerie (Bayler) Baldwin.
Bill lived a life defined by helping others. Armed with a photographic memory, a desire to learn, and a knack for engineering, Bill could fix almost anything—often by hand-fabricating a part that didn't exist until he made it.
He was the ultimate "dog-dad" to his beloved Pomeranian, Butter.
Bill loved lake life while living on “lake time” and spending hours on his pontoon. When he wasn’t tinkering on a project or helping a friend, you might find him on the lake, traveling, hunting for spring mushrooms, or chasing the stars. Bill was a dedicated “sky-watcher” who thought nothing of driving hundreds of miles just to stand in the shadow of a solar eclipse.
A big part of his heart belonged to the Michigan Center Eagles. As a long-time member, past President, and Trustee, Bill was an important brother of the club—whether he was walking in the walk-a-thon, performing maintenance, doing trustee tasks, or meticulously tending to the summer flowers.
Bill will be missed by many, including his extensive Eagles family. He is survived by his sisters, Teresa (Dan) Klaassen and Andrea (Rob) Johnson; his nieces and nephews, Hunter (Meaghan) Klaassen; great-niece, Daisy Klaassen; Isaac, Noah, and Hannah Johnson; cousin, Suzie (Tommy) Herman Lige; his step-father, Jim (Coralie) Johnson; his Aunt Jackie Killian; his Aunt Jan (Mickey) Kiss, his Aunt Susie (Tim) Powers; his Aunt Marilyn Gamal; his many dear cousins; and his good friends and neighbors, Tim and Alice.
Bill’s family invites you to remember him the next time you’re out on the water or looking at the stars. A celebration of life will be held May 30th, 2:00-6:00 PM at the Michigan Center Eagles. More details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts be made to the Jackson Friendly Home or the Cascades Humane Society.
