Charles Floyd Schiel's Obituary
Charles Floyd Schiel, 83, of Manchester passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Chelsea Hospital. Charlies’ family and friends will gather Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Eineder Funeral Homes - Manchester Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 pm. Pastor David Bucholtz of Bethel United Church of Christ will officiate.
He was born on August 15, 1942, in Manchester, Michigan to Floyd and Elizabeth (Waltz) Schiel. Charlie married the love of his life, Joanne Cousino, on August 2, 1969 in Manchester, Michigan. He will be remembered for his pride of his country. Charlie is a Manchester High School graduate, class of 1960. He proudly served his country from 1964-1966, during the Vietnam Conflict in the United States Army. Charlie was a life member of the American Legion Post 117, holding a position in all offices and providing military funeral honors for over 25 years, He also placed flags at 17 cemeteries for veterans with the help of his family for over 30 years. Charlie was employed at numerous locations, most noted E.G. Mann and Sons feed mill, AA Products until their closing in 1988, and retiring from Carquest in Saline. He loved farming the land and was a sheep shearer for over 50 years through out the state. One of his many accomplishments was participating in the Mackinac Bridge Antique Tractor crossing, he had the honor of placing the American flag at the opening ceremony. He was also on the council of the Washtenaw County Veterans for many years. Charlie was 100% disabled but never let that get in his way. He was very proud of his accomplishments. He enjoyed deer hunting and helping those in need, whether it was feed for livestock out west after wild fires or the donation of his treasured toy tractors for children in need. Charlie was a very generous man with a terrific sense of humor, especially his one liners, that loved his family above all. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joanne; his sons, James Schiel and John (Tuesdee) Schiel; a sister, Ruth Hainstock and brother-in-law, Robert Richmond; grandchildren Zipporah and Oren; many step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Elizabeth Schiel; a sister, Mary Richmond; father -in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond (Gladys) Cousino, Sr.; and brothers-in-law, Bill Hainstock and Raymond Cousino. Jr.
