David Ralph Schaefer, 70, passed away on September 3, 2023 in the presence of his loving family while looking out from his home at his favorite fishing spot on Lake Le Ann. David's family will gather for visitation on Friday September 8, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Eineder Funeral Homes, 137 S Main St, Brooklyn, Michigan, as Well as on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a m. at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 10516 Hayes Rd., Clarklake, Michigan. His Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rita's. Father Tom Helfrich O. S.F.S. will serve as celebrant.
David was born on April 3, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio to John (“Jack”) and Barbara (Runyan)Schaefer. He married the love of his life, Kathleen Mruzek, on March 1, 1980, at St Hyancinth Church in Toledo, Ohio. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage and deep friendship. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Dave adored his grandchildren and will always be remembered as the "Candyman”. He had a great sense of humor, with a knack for putting himself in absurd situations that would later make for hilarious stories to be forever told by family and friends. Dave worked 45 years as a pharmacist, always going out of his way to get his customers the cheapest prices, as well as delivering scripts to those that struggled traveling to the pharmacy. He was an avid fisherman (an obsession he instilled in his two sons), and a day rarely went by without him on the water. He loved fishing locally on Lake Le Ann, trolling on Lake Michigan and walking its tributaries for King Salmon, spending countless hours jigging for Walleye on the Detroit River, and taking yearly trips to secluded lakes in Canada. Dave was also a pickleball and golf fanatic, dedicating endless hours perfecting his craft (he was never satisfied with his technique). He handled his death with dignity and grace, aided by his newfound Catholic faith and trust in God.
Dave will be missed by his wife, Kathy; his children, Zak (Brittany) Schaefer of Jerome, MI and Nick (Chelsea) Schaefer of Jackson, MI; sister, Mary Lynn (Randall) Woods; grandchildren Grayson Schaefer, Emersyn Schaefer, and Milo Jean Schaefer, brother-in-law Brian (Renee) Mruzek and their children Ellie (Philip) Buerk and Jake (Lexie Carey) Mruzek, and all of his close friends and acquaintances. He is preceded in death by his parents.
