It's a long story but fearing for our safety in the redwood forest in California after losing our breaks on the side of a 16% grade mountain. We waited in the middle of nowhere for a tow truck until midnight that proceeded to take us to his house in the middle of the woods! We obviously survived but thought we might end up on dateline. 😂
Gary was an outstanding teacher and an even better person. I mourn his loss, but his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched. My sincere condolences to his entire family.

Mr. Baldwin was my absolute favorite science teacher. Physics was one of my favorite classes of all time and I thoroughly enjoyed learning from this enthusiastic, fun-loving, good-natured, positive, and truly inspiring human being. I remember wishing more of my classes were like Physics - it was a challenging subject, but Mr. Baldwin made it accessible, and I think so many of us eventually became sincerely interested in it simply because of him. He made projects fun and homework was more like, hey, how does this really work or how does this apply to real life rather than just preparing for a test. I still use things I learned from Mr. Baldwin today, and that was 40 years ago! After Physics as a junior, I was so excited to take Chemistry from Mr. Baldwin my senior year and have him for another class. He really made an impression on me and he definitely made a difference as a teacher and as a person -- I am grateful to have known him and I know there are likely hundreds if not thousands of other MCHS grads out there who would say the same. My Dad taught at MC as well, and I know he and Mr. Baldwin were good friends. Mr. Baldwin is easily one of the most loved and respected teachers I have ever known. My sincerest condolences to his family; it is hard to lose someone so full of life. - Sue Fracker, Class of 1986
Enjoyed Mr Baldwin's classes many years ago and was an exceptional teacher. So sorry to hear of his passing and may the family be comforted. Sincere condolences to all.
