Geraldine "Gerry" W. Sherwood's Obituary
Age 87, of Jackson, passed away at her home, Saturday, August 28, 2021. She was born April 17, 1934, the daughter of Orley and Thereasa Eggleston. Gerry was a 1952 graduate of East Jackson High School and then in 1953 was married to the love of her life, Darrell Sherwood.
Gerry is survived by her beloved family, her husband of 68 years, Darrell L. Sherwood; son, Michael (Stephanie) Sherwood of Westerville, OH; daughter and best friend, Michele "Mickey" Wiginton of Jackson; six grandchildren, Jason Sherwood, Jeff Sherwood, Jesse (Abbey) Sherwood, J. Andrew (Brian Gadbaw) Wiginton, Kim (Hugo) Gamez and Mike (Liz) Wiginton; 12 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Eli, Jeorgia, Colton, Hugo, Max, Penelope, Gabi, Lucy, Tucker, Darrell and Logan; special cousin, Ray (Nancy) Eggleston; nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Katie Wiginton; her parents; brother, Donald Eggleston (killed in action in WWII) and sister, Virginia Converse.
Gerry worked as the office manager for over 25 years for Doctors James Wilkins and Thomas Harris at their dermatology office, where she built many dear friendships with staff and patients. She and Darrell had been members of the Christian Motorcycle Riders Association. Her career that she enjoyed most and was very successful at was that of spoiling her grand and great-grandchildren. Whether it was attending their sporting or band events in person or electronically, she was there. She especially liked football and basketball. As she said many times, her family was her everything.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial visitation will be held at Arthur-Day Funeral Home in Michigan Center on Wednesday evening, September 1, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm and again Thursday morning from 10 to 11 am. A Memorial Service to celebrate her beautiful life will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11 am with Reverend Rich Ratts officiating. A luncheon will follow the memorial services. Private interment will take place at Roseland Memorial Gardens.
