Mary Alice Korican's Obituary
Mary Alice (Lannom) Korican, of Manchester, MI, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 22, 2022. She was born in Mrs. Gumper’s Private Hospital in Manchester, MI on December 12, 1937 to Walda (Timmerman) and Roscoe Lannom. She attended Michigan State University and graduated with a teaching degree in 1957. On August 12, 1961, she married John Thomas Korican and resided in Manchester where they dedicated their lives to teaching.
Mary loved the thousands of children she worked with in Michigan Public Schools for 37 years before retiring and taking up her second job, helping to watch her grandchildren, the light of her life. She was a life-long member of Emmanual United Church of Christ. She enjoyed singing in the choir, serving on the church counsel, working vacation bible school, and cooking for the church’s food trailer at the Manchester fair, church dinners, and funeral luncheons. She loved playing the piano and playing bridge, where she was highly competitive.
She is survived by her husband John Korican; her son John Korican (Carrie); her grandchildren Jacob Korican and Samuel Korican; her sister-in-law Elizabeth (Trolz) Lannom; step-sister Christine (Ron) Taylor, and several nieces and nephews who were dear to her. Mary was preceded in death by her loving “Granny” Anna Timmerman; her parents; two brothers, Ronald Roscoe and Thomas Michael Lannom; and her best friend/sister June (Lannom) Turnbull.
Mary’s family and friends will gather Friday, October 28, 2022, from 10:00 am – 11:30 am at Emanuel United Church of Christ, 324 W. Main St., Manchester. Her funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 11:30 am. Rev. David Bucholtz will serve as celebrant.
