Nell Carolyn Lockhart's Obituary
Nell C. Lockhart, 93, of Jackson, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Vista Grande Villa, in Jackson. She was born on April 17, 1931 in Scottville, Michigan to Jesse and Lucy Fern Falconer. Nell graduated from Scottville High School in 1949 and attended Central Michigan University until 1951. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education at Eastern Michigan University in 1953.
Nell met the love of her life, David Lockhart at Central Michigan University and they were married in 1951. They were married 63 years, until David’s death in 2014. Together they had 2 children, Lee Alan and Lynn Ann. Nell taught elementary education for many years at Southgate Schools.
They moved to Southgate, Michigan in 1955 and lived there until retirement. Nell especially loved the cottage they built together on the Betsie River. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking. Their greatest hike adventure was to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. They spent 27 winters in Tucson, Arizona where they enjoyed many friendships and loved to golf and participate as golf marshals at LPGA and PGA events. Eventually they moved back to Elk Rapids, Michigan. Together they traveled extensively in the United States and to many countries including Scotland, England and Australia.
Nell had extraordinary talent as a seamstress and with needle work. She made a wedding dress for Lynn and knit Christmas stockings for all the children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She made intricate cross stitch works of art including London and Sydney, Australia. Nell was an accomplished bridge player all her life and enjoyed playing Mahjong and teaching others to play at her last residence at Vista Grande Villa. She was a valued member of the Friends of the Library in Elk Rapids, Michigan and served as the treasurer for many years.
Nell is survived by her children, Lee (Joyce) Lockhart of Friendswood, Texas and Lynn (Randy) Guernsey of Clarklake, Michigan; four grandchildren, Jason (Cara) Lockhart, Jerod (Michelle) Lockhart, Katie and Kyle Guernsey. Her brother, Ralph Falconer and family, Joan (Brad) Humphrey, Ann (Rob) Hanson, Steve (Andrea) Falconer, Lynda (Shannon)Eickstaedt and great granddaughters, Kendall Perdew and Madison Haffelder. Their children, grandchildren and great granddaughters were all very dear to her.
