Dear Patrice's Family, I am very sorry for your loss; please accept my heartfelt condolences. I am a faculty member at the University of Michigan School of Public Health in the Epidemiology Department. However, I first got to know Patrice in my role as a staff member in the Environmental Health Sciences Department, and then later as a doctoral student. Patrice was kind and thoughtful. I remember that she gave me a very consoling card when I lost my dad in 2011. I still have the card; yes, it was that special and thoughtful.

As her retirement neared, I used to tell her that she was going to miss us. Well, I did miss her and I tried to keep in touch with her at least twice a year, with early October 2024 being the last time we communicated. Please know that my thoughts are with you and may God comfort you during this
difficult time.

To Larry, Jordan, and all of Patrice's loved ones: My deepest sympathy with all of you at this time. I met Patrice in 2006 when I joined the Environmental Health Sciences faculty. Patrice's intelligence, attention to detail (yes a stickler as Toby said :)), and observational powers were formidable. She was also kind with a heart of gold and looked out for people and the greater good. Patrice really was a light to the world and I was glad to have occasional contact after she retired. She is gone too soon and I know leaves a great legacy of love. May her spirit and memories of the joy she brought bring comfort to all who mourn her. Thanks and God bless you, dear Patrice.

One day I'll go to Europe for you. I know that's where you have wanted to go but didn't because you were always too worried about all of us kids and our kids. Always thinking of everyone else first. Love you mommy. Hope your up in heaven full filling all your dreams.

On behalf of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at University of Michigan School of Public Health, I am sharing our sincere condolences and sympathy with Larry, Jordan, Stephanie and all of her family. Patrice worked at the School of Public Health for over 30 years with strong connections in Environmental Health Sciences, Nutritional Sciences, and Biostatistics. She retired in January 2018.

Patrice was the first to welcome me here to Michigan 17 years ago and to share her kindness, wit, rock collection, and big stick! My family got to know her too when my husband installed a new linen closet in her home. Patrice is very missed, and we thank her for all she did to support and lead our Department.

Sending my heartfelt condolences to all of Patrice’s family. I knew Patrice through EHS at UofM - first meeting her when I was brand new faculty in 1999. In those first few years, she was more than a little intimidating. She was a stickler for detail - kind, but someone who demanded the best out of you, and who did not let you cut corners. Once I figured out the secret (just do it right the first time and on time!) she let her soft side show - always one to ask how I was doing, to help problem-solve a tricky situation, to generously give of her own time and energy to help when you just needed a helping hand. By the time she retired, I counted her as a valued colleague and trusted friend. She will be sorely missed. Warmly, Toby Lewis
