Uncle Phil will always hold a special place in my heart. He was my dad’s best friend so naturally my brother and I spent a lot of time around him. Many memories fishing and going to Oakshade are shared with him. The thing I’ll remember the most is when I was 5 or 6. I was young and didn’t understand that there’s a wash out in the lake where the motor on the pontoon starts. For some reason I ventured to that area and fell straight down into a hole, at this point of my life I couldn’t swim, so naturally I started to drown. Phil must have heard the commotion and without hesitation he dived into the lake to save me. At this time Phil was a lot bigger than he was of recent, and he dove over the back seat, under the pontoon canopy and cleared the motor to come get me. I hope this story shows how much he was willing to do for his loved ones.
