I have enjoyed conversations with Bob and wish I had known him longer. I was fascinated how he made the Army system work for him and not the other way around like most of us during the Vietnam draft era. He enlisted and elected to be trained as an Army aircraft mechanic. Following his training he was shipped to Vietnam, but he was not assigned as an aircraft mechanic. He served out his tour and was given the option to reup with a bonus. He took the deal to stay in Vietnam, but only if he could work as an aircraft mechanic, and that is what happened. On the next reup, with the bonus he negotiated a good state side job. He made the unworkable system work for him. I was not that smart when I went in the service. I wish I had known this intelligent, humble man 55 years ago when I had to enlist. I will miss Bob and our talks, but his memory will be a blessing to me. George, Ackerson Lake
