William "Bill" Burton's Obituary
William "Bill" Howden-Knowles" Burton, 83, of Jackson, MI, passed away on May 31st surrounded by his family. He was born on February 23, 1941, in Edinburgh, Scotland to Robert and Williamina Burton. William known to many as "Bill," enlisted with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders British Army in 1958 during his service he was stationed in Singapore, Borneo and Brunell. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth at Canongate Church in Edinburgh, Scotland on June 20th 1959. In 1967 he was discharged from the Army to pursue moving his family abroad.
Bill dedicated many years of his life to Hoover Ball Bearing in Ann Arbor until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, bowling and a bit of gambling from time to time and playing golf, a hobby that brought him much joy and relaxation. He enjoyed spending quality time with his lifelong friends and family. He had a Scottish accent that was always topic of discussion whenever he met someone new and a sense of humor that often left you laughing. Bill had a particularly close relationship with his grandchildren, their adventures spanned many states, amusement parks, zoos, museums, movie theaters, aquariums, cornhole games, Lego sets, golf courses and of course Tim Hortons, him and his grandson Brandon's favorite pass time.
Bill is survived by his three sons: Richard (Jill) Burton of Ann Arbor, Paul (Alisa) Burton of Onsted, and Mark (Kristen) Burton of Michigan Center. He is also remembered by his five grandchildren: Brandon Burton , Nathan Moyer, Rachael Melton, Paul and Benjamin Burton as well as five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Robert Burton of Scotland. Bill is proceeded in death by his wife Elizabeth, his parents Williamina and Robert and his cherished in laws Alexander and Ann .
His family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and Spring Arbor Assisted Living Facility and his special CNA Marissa for the love and care and dedication they provided. Per Bill's wishes, no memorial services will take place. Bill will be remembered for his dedication to his family his love for golf, and the cherished memories he leaves behind with his family and friends
